The name and overall mission for Helping Other People's Enrichment,
Inc. ("HOPE") exemplifies our philosophy--that our staff seeks to
enrich children and families by helping with a child's development
within a family. Our emphasis is on finding and developing strengths.
Children who have been raised for a significant portion of their lives
with:
- Inconsistent parenting
- Frequent shifts from one caregiver to another
- Physical abuse and being amidst domestic violence
- Sexual abuse
- Substance abuse issues within the home
- Parents with their own mental and physical health issues
Need consistency, nurturing, and safety in their daily lives to modify
the sometimes troubled behaviors reflected in earlier life patterns.
The HOPE staff members have skills and training to help these young
people learn more appropriate behaviors.
The foster parents of HOPE are specifically trained to work with
children within the home setting to bring out the potential of each
child which may have been hidden by earlier life experiences. Foster
parents come from diverse backgrounds and are geographically dispersed
throughout Hampton-Newport News and surrounding areas.
Together, work is done on a team basis in the least restrictive
environment to develop the best possible conditions for remedial work
and strength development. Children between the ages of 0-18 are
served.
We formulate our treatment plans with emphasis on safe care and
provide only as much supervision as needed to accomplish our
goals. Clients may rest assured that their legal rights are consistent
with basic human dignity regardless of degree of need. Within the
program parameters, young people will have an opportunity to succeed
and grow in self-esteem.
